It was evening time, around 7.30pm. The meditation hall at Art of Living International Centre was packed with devotees waiting for Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to arrive. I was doing my first Advanced Meditation Course with a couple of my friends and we were sitting right at the back of the hall, very close to the entrance, hoping to be the first few to see Sri Sri enter the hall. Suddenly from the depths of nowhere we heard this super captivating, very melodious, calming, sweet and soothing voice singing Jai Jai Durge Maa, Shri Bhuvaneshwari Maa…
There was this magical blend of beauty, peace, love, devotion and innocence in the voice. I just wanted to track the singer behind the mike. Amidst the huge crowd I paved my way to the singers’ area!! I was glued to this divine face, while she kept singing magical and devotional songs. Lost in her beauty I did not even notice when the satsang got over and people started walking out of the hall. Suddenly, she turned and looked behind and our eyes met for the first time. She smiled sweetly and took my heart away! Satsang was over, but the sweet hang-over of my first meeting with her stayed for many days.
This was my first meeting with the one and only, Bhanu Didi, where she said nothing and yet took a permanent place in my heart. Ever since, every time I get a chance to see her, be with her or even hear her, I never miss it. In the last 11 years I have seen her many times and have only wondered how she is so beautiful, modest, natural, innocent, calming, smiling, giving, loving and caring.
Well, if you thought she only sings, this is not all; Bhanu Didi has taken several social and reform initiatives. Art of Living is running over 200 free schools, educating thousands of kids in the rural remotes of India, with her blessings and inspiration.
The International Women’s Conference – IWC was started and initiated by her to empower rural women. She also facilitates meditation programs and workshops and trains trainers to teach meditation. With a passion for free education for under-privileged children, a drive to uplift and empower women, and a commitment to serve the society, Bhanu Didi has devoted her life for the betterment of the world.
“Happy Birth Day Bhanu Didi” Thank you for always being there!
